Inspired by a lifelong desire to recreate the look and feel of a classic farmhouse style kitchen and driven to increase the functionality of the space for a growing family, this remodel on Purchase Street in Easton was a project truly aimed at creating the homeowners’ dream kitchen.
The combination of light cabinets and a dark stone countertop would serve as the keystone of the new design. Selection of mildly distressed white cabinets from Starmark would ensure lifelong quality and beauty. Utilization of soapstone for the countertop provided the muted gloss level the homeowners had in mind while providing nonporous and heat resistant benefits critical to keeping a working kitchen safe and beautiful for the whole family. Completing the countertop space is a large white porcelain farmer’s sink that would be as equally well suited to a kitchen designed a century ago as it is today.
To improve functionality, the sink was moved across the room from its original location near the stove to increase working space on the countertop around the cooking surface. The countertop was then extended at a right angle to the stove, creating additional working space between the kitchen and living room that is equally beneficial for cooking and as a serving area while entertaining. A pot-filler was integrated directly over the cook-top to speed up preparation of meals for this growing family.
The farmhouse aesthetic was completed with lightly stained natural hickory flooring and inclusion of a neutral colored marble backsplash. The end result is a kitchen that is equally functional and beautiful, ready for this family of four to cook and entertain together for many years to come!
